Hollendorfer Longshots Run One-Two In Feature

Leading trainer Jerry Hollendorfer sent out a pair of longshots in Sunday’s feature at Golden Gate Fields and then watched them run one-two in the
1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares.

Rainbow Luck, an 11-to-1 outsider ridden by Frank Alvarado, held off Cover Story, a 9-to-1 shot ridden by Catalino Martinez, to win the allowance contest by a neck.  Eyes On the Prize finished third.

Rainbow Luck, a 4-year-old filly owned by Sweetwater Stable, paid $24.60 after earning her third victory in 12 career starts.  The $1 exacta of Rainbow Luck to Cover Story paid $95.30 – an incredible return considering both runners hailed from the mighty Hollendorfer barn.

Hollendorfer tops the Golden Gate Fields trainer standings with 34 victories.

Jockeys Russell Baze and Frank Alvarado both had riding triples Sunday.  Baze won the fourth race with Knockout Artist ($3.40), the sixth with Whos Calling Now ($4.20), and the seventh with Dima ($4.80).  Alvarado scored with Wheels of Fire ($3.80) in the second race, Rainbow Luck in the eighth, and Love Gone West ($4.20) in the ninth.

Baze ranks as the leading jockey at Golden Gate Fields with 64 victories.

Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday, when the track presents an eight-race card that will begin at 12:45 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will be open Wednesday for a simulcast program that will feature action from Tampa Bay Downs (post time is 10:50 a.m. for the first simulcast), Aqueduct (10:52. a.m.), Laurel (11 a.m.), Beulah Park (11:07 a.m.), Hawthorne (11:30 a.m.), Portland Meadows (12:40 p.m.), and Penn National (3:30 p.m.).
