Hollendorfer, Baze Shine At Golden Gate Fields On Labor Day

Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who made news by going winless with 28 consecutive starters from Aug. 22 through Sept. 1, won four of the 10 races on Monday’s Labor Day racing program at Golden Gate Fields.

Hollendorfer’s lengthy victory drought came while he was pursuing career win No. 6,000, which he finally recorded on Saturday when Just Tappin It took the sixth race at Golden Gate Fields.

The Hollendorfer barn resembled the powerhouse outfit it is on Monday, winning the first race with My Gal Candy ($7.00), the second with Hot Engagement ($5.80), the fifth with Undeniable Fact ($5.20) and the featured eighth with He’s So Stylish ($34.40).

Russell Baze, who was 2-for-27 at the summer meeting heading into Friday’s card, rode three winners Monday and went 10-for-24 during the holiday weekend to move into a tie for first place in the jockey standings with Aaron Gryder (12 wins apiece).

Baze teamed with Hollendorfer for the victories with My Gal Candy and Undeniable Fact and then completed his riding hat trick when he won the sixth race aboard Flammable Boom ($12.60).

Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will be open Wednesday for a simulcast racing program that will feature closing-day action from Del Mar.  Post time at Del Mar is 2 p.m.
