HALL OF FAME JOCKEY RUSSELL BAZE ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT

BAZE, 57, WON 12,842 RACES DURING STELLAR CAREER
 
ALBANY, CALIF. – Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze has announced his retirement, effective immediately.
 
According to Equibase statistics, Baze won 12,842 races in North America, more than any other jockey. A native of Vancouver, B.C., Baze began his career in the Pacific Northwest, winning his first race Oct. 28, 1974 at Yakima Meadows. He posted his final win Saturday in the 10th race at Golden Gate Fields.
 

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS FORCED TO SWITCH RACES 10 & 12 FROM TURF TO MAIN TRACK AS JOCKEYS CITE UNSAFE TURF CONDITIONS

 ALBANY, Calif. (June 12, 2016)—Following today’s ninth race, jockeys informed Golden Gate Fields management that they refused to ride the 10th and 12th races, citing unsafe turf course conditions.  Accordingly, Golden Gate management switched Sunday’s 10th and 12th races to the main track, which necessitated that both races be considered “no contest,” resulting in an “all” payout for Pick Six wagering purposes.
 

GOLDEN PICK 6 JACKPOT REACHES $1.4 MILLION, MUST BE PAID OUT SUNDAY

ALBANY, CALIF. – There will be a betting bonanza tomorrow at Golden Gate Fields as the entire Golden Pick 6 pool and carryover must be paid out.
 
Sunday’s jackpot will begin at $1,408,071.22. Typically, the jackpot is paid only when there is a single ticket with all six winners. There is a mandatory payout tomorrow, closing day for the Winter/Spring Meet. The minimum wager is 20 cents.

ALBANY, CALIF. – Down the Stretch Ranch in Creston, Wash. has become a haven for retired racehorses and war veterans alike.
 
Located on property owned by the McCanna family of Washington and California racing fame, Down the Stretch is the creation of Boone McCanna and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The idea was to create a place where both thoroughbreds and veterans could rehabilitate.
 

GOLDEN PICK 6 JACKPOT CARRYOVER REACHES $1.2 MILLION

ALBANY, CALIF. – The jackpot on the Golden Pick 6 will begin at $1,201,866.77 when racing continues Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.
 
Winning Golden Pick 6 tickets on Saturday were worth $1,172.12 for a 20-cent bet. The jackpot is paid only when there is a single ticket with all six winners.
 
There will be a mandatory payout on the Golden Pick 6 on June 12, closing day for the Winter/Spring Meet.
