Hess Barn Remains On Fire At GGF; Hansen-Qvale Team Click Again
Trainer Bob Hess won another race at Golden Gate Fields Friday to continue to his torrid campaign at the summer meeting, and the trainer-owner combination of Roger Hansen and Kjell Qvale clicked again to extend their winning streak at the East Bay racetrack. Hess, who on Thursday won the fourth race with the Don Muldoon-owned Swiss Ski, captured the first race Friday with Curtis Corn’s 3-year-old filly Cherokee Cheyenne ($7.80). The victory was Hess’ ninth from 17 starters at the summer meeting, giving the veteran conditioner an incredible win percentage of 52.9 through 17 days of racing at the summer session. Hansen and Qvale won their fifth straight race at Golden Gate Fields when Lapollo ($6.00) took Friday’s sixth race. The duo went 1-for-1 last Friday, 2-for-2 last Sunday, and began this week by going 1-for-1 Thursday. Jockey Frank Alvarado had a riding triple Friday. Alvarado teamed up with trainer Steve Specht for two of the victories as they captured the third race with U. R. Beat ($10.00) and the seventh with Skimasco ($7.20). Alvarado completed his hat trick when he took the eighth race aboard the Dennis Patterson-trained Miss Forest ($3.80). Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race program Saturday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
