Hernandez Tied Atop Standings After Riding Triple

Juan Hernandez moved into a tie with Russell Baze for the top spot in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings by riding three winners Thursday.

Hernandez had four mounts on the seven-race card and won with Silver Terrace ($15.20) in the first race, Mahogany Ridge ($7.40) in the third, and Zoe’s Baba ($8.80) in the sixth.  Hernandez’ other mount was Higher Mountains, who finished second in the fourth race.

Hernandez and Baze both have eight victories through eight days of racing at the summer meeting.

Former racing official Leon Lewis, a longtime steward in Northern California, celebrated his 85th birthday Thursday at Golden Gate Fields and received a nice present when his 3-year-old filly One Cool Girl broke her maiden with a photo-finish victory in the fifth race.

One Cool Girl, with Catalino Martinez aboard, defeated 2-1 favorite No Games by a head and paid $7.60.  Lewis bred and owns One Cool Girl, a daughter of Siberian Summer, in partnership with Bill Hipwell.

Post time Friday at Golden Gate Fields is 3:45 p.m. and the track will offer fans “Happy Hour” food and drink specials from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. (post time for the fifth race).  The “Happy Hour” specials include all bottled beer for $3.50, Sauza margaritas for $5.00, Bulliet bourbon for $5.00, jumbo hot dogs for $2.00, regular nachos for $2.00, and fountain sodas for $2.00.
