Happybirthdaybaby Completes Hat Trick For Hollendorfer
Happybirthdaybaby, improving to 3-for-3 for Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, scored a front-running victory in the $33,418 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
Hollendorfer claimed Happybirthdaybaby for $32,000 on Nov. 11 at Golden Gate Fields and had her make her first start for his stable at Santa Anita, where she won a $40,000 claiming event down the track’s famed hillside turf course.
Happybirthdaybaby made her second start for “The Dorf” at Golden Gate Fields in a one-mile allowance race on the track’s synthetic Tapeta racing surface. The Kentucky-bred filly came from just off the pace to win by a nose.
Happybirthdaybaby completed her hat track for Hollendorfer Sunday when she held off Runfasterelse down the stretch to score by 1 1/4 lengths under jockey Russell Baze.
A bay daughter of Successful Appeal, Happybirthdaybaby completed 1 1/16-miles on Tapeta in 1:46.31.
Runfasterelse, ridden by William Antongeorgi III, took second by a length over Charlie Em and jockey Dennis Carr.
Happybirthdaybaby has been favored in all three of her starts for Hollendorfer and she paid $4.40 as the 6-5 choice Sunday. Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and George Todaro, Happybirthdaybaby earned $18,600 and has made $61,200 in her three outings for the duo.
Happybirthdaybaby, who took the first race on the card, was one of three winners ridden by Baze. The Hall of Famer also scored with If You Like It ($9.60) in the third race and High Test ($5.60) in the eighth.
Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
