Happybirthdaybaby Celebrates Another Win

Happybirthdaybaby celebrated her eighth career victory Sunday at Golden Gate Fields after she held off 8-1 shot Sudden Sunday by a head in the $40,405 sprint feature for fillies and mares.

Happybirthdaybaby, who had posted a smart victory down the hillside turf course at Santa Anita in her previous outing, was the 3-2 favorite in Sunday’s six-furlong allowance race on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface.

Ridden by Alejandro Gomez, Happybirthdaybaby came from just off the pace to open up a clear lead in midstretch and then continued on strongly to the wire to score a narrow win over hard-charging Sudden Sunday.

Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer trains Happybirthdaybaby, who stopped the timer in 1:10.73 and paid $5.00 after collecting her fifth win in her last seven starts.  Hollendorfer owns Kentucky-bred Happybirthdaybaby, who earned $18,600, in partnership with longtime client George Todaro.

A very consistent 4-year-old filly by Successful Appeal, Happybirthdaybaby has finished in the exacta in 12 of her 14 career starts and earned $170,190.

Hollendorfer had a training triple as he also won the second race with My Gal Candy ($3.60) and the seventh with Hermosa Vaquera ($11.40).

Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Friday when the track presents a mid-afternoon program that begins at 3:45 p.m.  The track will be open for simulcast wagering Wednesday and Thursday.
