Happy Hour Racing, Family Fun Days, Dollar Sundays All On Tap At Golden Gate Fields Summer Meeting

Golden Gate Fields will present Happy Hour racing programs on the first three Fridays of the 2012 summer meeting, which opens Friday, Aug. 17, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 16.

The Happy Hour cards will be held on Aug. 17, Aug. 24 and Aug. 31 and feature half-price admission, food and drink specials, and live music between races.  Post time for the Happy Hour programs is 3:45 p.m.

Post time is 1:15 p.m. for all other days at the summer meeting, a 17-day affair in which racing will be conducted on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule.

The first three Saturdays of the meeting – Aug. 18, Aug. 25, and Sept. 1 – have been designated as Family Fun Days.  Golden Gate Fields will offer many free and fun activities for kids, including a zip line, rock climbing wall, obstacle courses and bounce houses.  Kids are admitted free to Golden Gate Fields and the activities will be held from noon to 4 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will offer $1 specials – general parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs and sodas will cost just a buck – and present free live concerts every Sunday during the summer session.  The lineup for the summer concert series is as follows: Tainted Love, Aug. 19; The Department Of Rock, Aug. 26; Love Fool, Sept. 2; Filipino Music Fest, Sept. 9; and The Cheeseballs, Sept. 16.

Fans attending the races on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, will receive a free Golden Gate Fields baseball cap that features the track’s classic logo from the 1970s.  Horses won’t be the only animals competing on the holiday card as Dachshunds will be showcased in the Wiener Nationals.

Golden Gate Fields will host Photo Days on Aug. 18, Sept. 1, and Sept. 15.  Participants will be given an all-access credential that will allow them to photograph morning workouts, horses in the paddock and barn area, and the afternoon races.  The $25 registration fee includes admission and a special buffet breakfast.  Photographers can register for one of the Photo Days at www.goldengatefields.com.

Car enthusiasts will want to visit Golden Gate Fields on Sept. 16 for the Horses and Horsepower Lunch Package.  Attendees will enjoy a car show featuring more than 100 vehicles, including hot rods, classics, modern tuners, and exotics, as well as a buffet lunch featuring build-your-own burgers, fried chicken, corn on the cob, salads, deserts and beverages.  Tickets for the Horses and Horsepower Lunch Package are $15 for adults and $6 for children.
