Greatest Escape Escapes With Narrow Win
Greatest Escape escaped with a narrow victory in the $39,260 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
Greatest Escape, receiving a strong ride from jockey Frank Alvarado, ran down 9-5 favorite Habit Forming and jockey Russell Baze in the final strides to score by a half-length. Vincenza finished third.
Greatest Escape won the six-furlong allowance race for fillies and mares in 1:10.21 and paid $5.60 as the second choice in the betting. A lightly-raced 4-year-old filly, Greatest Escape has three wins in four career starts.
Greatest Escape, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Game Plan, is trained by Jeff Bonde and owned by Robert Padilla.
Golden Gate Fields will conclude its 2012 fall season with a three-day racing week. Racing will be presented Friday through Sunday and post time is 12:45 p.m. each day.
Mirahmadi To Substitute For Wrona -- Frank Mirahmadi, track announcer at Oaklawn Park and the voice of the Northern California fair circuit, will substitute for Golden Gate Fields track announcer Michael Wrona the final three days of the meeting.
Wrona will be at San Isidro Race Track in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to call the
Grade 1 Gran Premio Internacional Carlos Pellegrini for the American horseracing television network HRTV. The Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini, a one-turn 1 1/2-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, will be run Saturday and is Argentina's biggest race.
