Gomez Records Riding Hat Trick, Couton Scores Another Double
Alejandro Gomez and Julien Couton ended the first week of racing at Golden Gate Fields’ summer meeting tied atop the jockey standings after recording multiple victories Sunday.
Gomez posted a riding hat trick, taking the third race with Sea Rascal ($7.00), the seventh with Love Mobile ($6.80) and the eighth with Koby Jo ($15.40).
Couton, who rode a pair of winners Saturday, made it back-to-back riding doubles by capturing the second and sixth races Sunday. Couton scored with a heavy favorite and a longshot, winning the second race with 3-5 Miss Corinthian ($3.20) and the sixth with 12-1 Stormetta ($26.40).
Gomez and Couton lead their colleagues with five victories through three days of action at the 17-day summer session. Frank Alvarado is right behind the top two with four wins.
Lloyd Mason had a training double as he saddled both Stormetta and Koby Jo.
Racing will resume Friday at Golden Gate Fields with a Happy Hour program that will feature half-price admission, food and drink specials, and live music between races. Post time for the eight-race card is 3:45 p.m.
