Golden Gate Fields Promotion Schedule Loaded For 22-Day Summer Meeting

Golden Gate Fields will present live thoroughbred racing on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule during its upcoming 22-day summer season and a promotion is slated for every day of the meeting.

The 2011 summer session opens Friday, Aug. 19, and runs through Sunday, Oct. 2.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.

Golden Gate Fields will salute its elder patrons every Friday of the season by offering seniors (62 and older) free admission to the races.  Seniors need only sign up for a free “Thoroughbreds” club card to take advantage of the complimentary admission.

Opening weekend will feature the “Wiener Nationals” on Saturday, Aug. 20, and the start of the Summer Concert Series on Sunday, Aug. 21, when Pride & Joy takes the Trackside Stage.

The “Wiener Nationals” is a popular event in which Dachshund races are presented between the thoroughbred races.  The winning wieners from the 30-yard preliminary heats meet in a championship final at the same distance.

The Summer Concert Series will feature a record 12 bands.  The impressive lineup is as follows: Pride & Joy, Sunday, Aug. 21; Stompy Jones, Saturday, Aug. 27; Busta Groove, Sunday, Aug. 28; Al Marshall Band, Saturday, Sept. 3; Department of Rock, Sunday, Sept. 4; Notorious, Monday, Sept. 5; Lloyd Gregory, Saturday, Sept. 10; Pop Fiction, Sunday, Sept. 11; AM Radio, Saturday, Sept. 17; Mustache Harbor, Sunday, Sept. 18; David Martin’s House Party, Sunday Sept. 25; and The Cheeseballs, Sunday, Oct. 2.

Golden Gate Fields will host a Food Truck Festival on four consecutive Saturdays – Aug. 27, Sept. 3, Sept. 10, and Sept. 17.  Gourmet food trucks from throughout the Bay Area will park trackside and offer racing fans a wide variety of chow, including falafels, Asian inspired tacos, fried chicken sandwiches, sweet potato fries, pulled pork sandwiches, Cajun BBQ and tiramisu cupcakes.

Golden Gate Fields secures its ranking as the best bargain in Bay Area sports every Sunday when it offers patrons $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 racing programs, $1 beers, $1 hot dogs, and $1 sodas.

The National Football League will present its first full Sunday of action on Sept. 11 and fans at Golden Gate Fields can catch all the games thanks to the track’s subscription to the NFL Sunday Ticket.  Grandstand gates open at 10 a.m. – just in time for kickoff of games on the East Coast – and football will be shown on television monitors throughout the racetrack.

There will be four NFL Sunday Ticket broadcasts at Golden Gate Field during the summer meeting – on Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 25, and Oct. 2.

Golden Gate Fields will present a special Labor Day racing program on Monday, Sept. 5.  All fans attending the holiday card with a paid admission will receive a free fleece blanket that features a classic racing shot.
