Golden Gate Fields Launches 22-Day Summer Meeting Friday
Golden Gate Fields will launch its 22-day summer horse racing meet Friday with an eight-race program. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
The summer season will feature three-day racing weeks with action every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through Oct. 2. There will also be a special Labor Day racing card on Monday, Sept. 5, when fans will receive a free Golden Gate Fields fleece blanket.
The summer session is loaded with promotions, including free admission for seniors (62 and older) every Friday and Dollar Day cards ($1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas) every Sunday.
The Sunday racing programs will also feature live concerts by some of the top bands in the Bay Area. The Sunday concert schedule is as follows: Pride & Joy on Aug. 21, Busta Groove on Aug. 28, Department of Rock on Sept. 4, Pop Fiction on Sept. 11, Mustache Harbor on Sept. 18, David Martin’s House Party on Sept. 25, and The Cheeseballs on Oct. 2.
The National Football League will present its first full Sunday of action on Sept. 11 and fans at Golden Gate Fields can catch all the games thanks to the track’s subscription to the NFL Sunday Ticket. Grandstand gates open at 10 a.m. – just in time for kickoff of games on the East Coast – and football will be shown on television monitors throughout the racetrack.
There will be four NFL Sunday Ticket broadcasts at Golden Gate Field during the summer meeting – on Sept. 11, Sept. 18, Sept. 25, and Oct. 2.
Golden Gate Fields will host the largest food truck festivals in Northern California on four consecutive Saturdays – Aug. 27, Sept. 3, Sept. 10, and Sept. 17. Gourmet food trucks will be parked trackside and offer fans a wide variety of chow, including falafels, Asian inspired tacos, fried chicken sandwiches, sweet potato fries, and pulled pork sandwiches.
Every Saturday and Sunday during the meeting fans can enter the free Guaranteed Gold voucher drawing. By simply filling out an entry blank, fans will have the opportunity to win a $50 betting voucher.
The first Saturday of season will feature the popular “Wiener Nationals,” an event in which Dachshund races are presented between the thoroughbred races. The winning wieners from nine preliminary heats will meet in a championship final.
The card for opening Saturday features 10 thoroughbred races and several large fields. A full field of 12 will match strides in the sixth race, a one-mile turf event for 3-year-olds and up that are looking for their first victory.
