Golden Gate Fields Announces Addition Of Overnight Sprint Stakes

Golden Gate Fields racing secretary David Jerkens announced Friday that an overnight sprint stakes has been added to the stakes schedule for the track’s 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting.

The $50,000-added Albany, a six-furlong contest for 4-year-olds and up, will be run on Saturday, Jan. 28.  Nominations for the Albany, which will also offer bonus money of up to $15,000 for California-b red runners, close Thursday, Jan. 19.

“We’re very happy to be able to offer this race for sprinters,” said Jerkens, who is in his first full season as racing secretary at Golden Gate Fields.  “I said before the meeting started that we will try to add overnight stakes whenever possible, and it’s great to be able to do so at such an early point in the season.”

The 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting opened Dec. 26 and continues through June 17.
