Five-Day Racing Week Begins Thursday With Winning Streaks On The Line

Golden Gate Fields will present five straight days of racing beginning Thursday and continuing through Monday, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. each day.

Two horses competing on Thursday’s seven-race card are hoping to extend winning streaks.  Yerkillinmesmalls will seek her fifth straight victory in the third race and Easy Going Boykie will gun for his fourth consecutive win in the sixth race.

Yerkillinmesmalls is a 6-year-old mare who hasn’t raced since July 6, when she scored a game victory in a $12,500 claiming race at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton.  That win was preceded by a victory in a $6,250 claiming event and a pair of wins in $4,000 claiming heats at Golden Gate Fields.

The third race is a six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares entered for a claiming price of $12,500.  Yerkillinmesmalls cannot be claimed out of the race per California Horse Racing Board rule No. 1634, which allows the connections of a horse returning from a layoff of at least six months to declare their horse “ineligible to be claimed” provided they enter the horse for a claiming price equal or greater than the price at which it last started.

That means win, lose or draw, Yerkillinmesmalls will return to the barn of trainer Ed Moger, Jr. and remain the property of her owner and breeder, Randy Morris.  A lightly-raced daughter of Old Topper, Yerkillinmesmalls has five wins in nine starts.

Easy Going Boykie, a 4-year-old gelding, began his winning streak with a three-length score in a $4,000 claiming race on Nov. 17.  He came back to win a $3,200 claiming race on Nov. 29 and a $4,000 claiming event on Dec. 26.

Easy Going Boykie will race for a claiming tag of $6,250 in the sixth race, a
5 1/2-furlong dash for 4-year-olds.  Trained by Steve Miyadi, Easy Going Boykie has four wins and a third in eight starts.  Gary Barber bred the California-bred son of Benchmark and owns the horse in partnership with his brother, Cecil.

Neither Yerkillinmesmalls nor Easy Going Boykie are favored in their respective races.  Yerkillinmesmalls is 9-2 (the fourth choice on the morning line) and Easy Going Boykie is 7-2 (the third choice).
