FINKEL PROMOTED TO DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

Kristin Finkel, who has served in the marketing department at Golden Gate Fields for five years, has been promoted to the position of Director of Marketing, track general manager Robert Hartman announced (Thursday).

Finkel, who earned a degree in Agricultural Business at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, was hired as a marketing coordinator at Golden Gate Fields in August 2005 and was promoted to marketing manager in May 2007.

Finkel was instrumental in developing Golden Gate Fields’ popular Dollar Day program, which offers fans $1 specials (parking, admission, racing programs, beers, hot dogs and sodas are all just a buck) every Sunday along with live musical entertainment, and during football season, the opportunity to see all the action via the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Finkel also introduced to Golden Gate Fields the Wiener Nationals, a series of races for dachshunds that are presented between the thoroughbred races.  A Wiener Nationals event in 2009 at Golden Gate Fields attracted an on-track crowd 11,462, the largest gathering at the track in 15 years.

Finkel has been around horse racing for most of her life as her father, Jeff Finkel, is a longtime owner who races his charges under the name Stewball Stable.  Kristin, now a horse owner herself, first worked at the racetrack as a teenager handing out giveaway items at Golden Gate Fields and later served three years as a marketing aide for the California Authority of Racing Fairs (CARF).

Finkel is assisted in the Golden Gate Fields marketing department by marketing associate Dan Cirimele.
