Feature Race Win Completes Hat Trick For Terrero

Feature Race Win Completes Hat Trick For Terrero

Jockey Pedro Terrero completed a riding hat trick when he guided 12-1 longshot Kitty Marie to a front-running victory in the $35,057 turf feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Kitty Marie broke from post position one and was sent straight to the lead by Terrero.  Sporting blinkers for the first time, Kitty Marie set the pace comfortably and then spurted away from her rivals at the top of the stretch.

Kitty Marie dug in tenaciously through the final sixteenth of a mile to hold off charging 9-5 favorite Papaslilprincess and score by a half-length.  Picture Perfect was third.

Kitty Marie, who had finished seventh in her turf debut at Santa Rosa on Aug. 1, paid $26.20.  Kitty Marie clocked a time of 1:36.85 while giving Terrero his third win on the card and trainer Sherrie Monroe her second victory on the program.

Terrero scored his earlier wins with Monster Hit ($5.20) in the third race and Margies Rule ($8.60) in the seventh.  Monroe won the fourth race, also a turf event, with Sahha ($17.00).

Trainer William E. Morey saddled the winner in back-to-back races, taking the fifth with Glamsquad ($17.00) and the sixth with Nancypeggy ($7.00).

Jockey Eswan Flores also won a pair of races as he captured the fifth race with Glamsquad and the ninth with Luckbox Sam ($7.40).

Summer racing at Golden Gate Fields will resume Thursday.  Post time is 1:15 p.m.
