Favored McBoomer Wins Mile Feature; Jockey Terrero Back In Winner’s Circle
McBoomer, the even-money favorite ridden by Russell Baze, rode the rail to victory in the $33,375 allowance feature Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.
McBoomer raced along the inside part of the track throughout the one-mile test for fillies and mares and found racing room at the top of the stretch when pacesetter Silver Mojave came one path off the rail.
McBoomer accelerated strongly once she saw daylight and scored by 1 1/4 lengths over 35-1 outsider Tiz Partners, who took second by three-quarters of a length over Global Warming.
Trained by R. B. Hess, McBoomer paid $4.20 after earning her fifth victory in 12 career starts. A Kentucky-bred filly by Harlan’s Holiday, McBoomer ran the mile on Tapeta in 1:38.57.
McBoomer, who banked $18,000 for the win, is owned by Aldo Lovotti.
Jockey Pedro Terrero, who returned to the saddle Thursday after being sidelined for nearly four months with a fractured left wrist, earned his first victory on the comeback trail Saturday when he guided heavy favorite Wine and Song ($3.00) to a front-running score in the first race.
Terrero, who finished off the board with two mounts Thursday and fourth aboard his only mount Friday, was injured in a spill on Sept. 14 at Golden Gate Fields.
Racing continues Sunday at Golden Gate Fields. Gates open at 10 a.m. and the 49ers playoff game will be shown on monitors throughout the racetrack. Post time is
12:45 p.m. and there will be the usual Dollar Day specials with general parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs and sodas costing just a buck each.
