Favored Brilliant Melody Prevails In Blanket Finish
Brilliant Melody, the 9-5 favorite ridden by Russell Baze, fought off a host of challengers through the final furlong to win the $40,405 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
In a blanket finish, Brilliant Melody prevailed by a neck over Koby Jo and English Royal. Koby Jo took second by a nostril over English Royal, who finished a head in front of Esperanza Latina. My Gal Candy finished fifth, a half-length behind Esperanza Latina and a head in front of last-place finisher Kitty Marie.
Brilliant Melody won the six-furlong allowance race in 1:10.84 and paid $5.80 after collecting her sixth career victory. A consistent 5-year-old mare, Brilliant Melody has finished in the money in 11 of her 16 races.
Brilliant Melody is trained by Ed Moger, Jr., and owned by his brother, Steve Moger. Saturday’s victory was worth $18,600 and increased Brilliant Melody’s earnings to $197,016.
