Extended Racing Week Begins With $31,844 Carryover In Pick 5

A carryover of $31,844 in the 50-cent Pick 5 will be the focus of handicappers Thursday at Golden Gate Fields when the track begins a five-day racing week that will culminate with a special Labor Day card Monday.

Post time is 1:15 p.m. with the exception of Friday, when “Happy Hour” racing begins at 3:45 p.m.  Golden Gate Fields offers “Happy Hour” specials – bottled beer for $3.50, Sauza margaritas for $5.00, Bulliet bourbon for $5.00, jumbo hot dogs for $2.00, nachos for $2.00, and fountain sodas for $2.00 – from 3:45 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. (post time for the fifth race).

The $50,000 Rolling Green Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf race for 3-year-olds and up, highlights the holiday weekend and will be run Monday.   The field for the Rolling Green will be drawn Friday, and multiple stakes-winners Hudson Landing and Positive Response are among the expected entrants.

The Pick 5 requires handicappers to select the winners of five consecutive races and the bet was missed by players last Sunday.  The Pick 5 will be held on races three through seven Thursday and post time for the third race is 2:15 p.m.

The 50-cent price allows Pick 5 players to use multiple horses in each race at an affordable cost.  For example, if person played a ticket that used two horses in each of the Pick 5 races, the total cost would be $16.  Not bad considering Pick 5 payoffs can be in the thousands.

BART To The Races –  With the Bay Bridge closed the next few days, people are encouraged to take BART to the races.  Golden Gate Fields operates a free shuttle that takes fans from the North Berkeley BART station to the track.  For more information, visit goldengatefields.com.
