El Camino Real Derby Champ Dice Flavor Is 5-1 In $2 Million UAE Derby

     Dice Flavor, who was 9-1 when he posted a 3 1/2-length victory in the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields on Feb. 16, is the 5-1 second choice on the morning line in the $2 million UAE Derby, which will be run Saturday at Meydan Race Course in Dubai.

     The UAE Derby is part of the $27 million Dubai World Cup card, the richest racing program in the world.  Golden Gate Fields will offer advance wagering on the Dubai World Cup races all day Friday.  Most of the Dubai World Cup races will be run early Saturday morning Pacific Time and before Golden Gate Fields opens its gates.

     Fans at Golden Gate Fields Friday can make advance wagers on the following races: the $1 million Godolphin Mile, $1 million Dubai Gold Cup, $2 million UAE Derby,
$1 million Al Quoz Sprint, $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen, $5 million Dubai Duty Free, $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic, and the $10 million Dubai World Cup. 

      Golden Gate Fields will open grandstand and club house gates at 10 a.m. Saturday and fans that arrive early will be able to watch the Sheema Classic (post time is 10:20 a.m.) and the Dubai World Cup (11:05 a.m.) live.

     Dice Flavor won the 1 1/8-mile El Camino Real Derby in 1:51.45 on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface.  Meydan also has a Tapeta track.

     Dice Flavor has two wins and two thirds in five career races and will be ridden in the UAE Derby by Jose Valdivia, Jr., who has been aboard for all of the colt’s starts.  Trained by Paddy Gallagher and owned in partnership by Oda Racing Stables and US Equine, Dice Flavor is a Kentucky-bred son of Scat Daddy.

     Twelve 3-year-olds will contest the 1 3/16-mile UAE Derby and the 3-1 favorite is Secret Number, who is undefeated in two starts.  A bay son of Raven’s Pass, Secret Number was bred in Great Britain and is coming off a two-length victory in a 1 3/16-mile stakes at Meydan on March 9.
