Dove Forest Posts Game Victory In Sprint Feature

The promising 3-year-old filly Dove Forest improved her record to 2-for-3 Sunday when she scored a game victory in the $33,604 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields.

Dove Forest, sent straight to the lead by jockey Frank Alvarado, turned back challenges from the quarter pole to the wire to win the six-furlong sprint for fillies and mares by a head over Red Hot Charlotte.

Dearly Concerned, the 3-to-5 favorite ridden by Russell Baze, finished third.

Dove Forest, a Kentucky-bred daughter of Forestry, stopped the timer in 1:10.62 and paid $9.60 as the second wagering choice in a field of five.  Dove Forest is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and owned in partnership by Hollendorfer, John Carver, and Mark DeDomenico.

Dove Forest finished second in her career debut on March 5 at Golden Gate Fields and then came back to break her maiden impressively on March 26.  Purchased as a yearling for $100,000, Dove Forest has made $41,000 in her three starts.

Trainer Gil Matos saddled two winners Sunday and jockeys Aaron Gryder and Inoel Beato each had riding doubles.

Matos won the sixth race with Reformed ($7.80) and the ninth with New Years Trick ($8.80).  Gryder took the third race aboard Secret Shadow ($7.00) and the seventh with Stylin Julie ($5.40).  Beato scored in back-to-back races, winning the fifth with Smokin Fame ($10.60) and the sixth with Reformed.

Live racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
