Dixico Scores Wire-To-Wire Victory

Dixico Scores Wire-To-Wire Victory

Dixico recorded his second straight victory and his third win in his last four starts when he led from start to finish in the one-mile feature race at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.

Superbly rated on the lead by jockey Kerwin John, Dixico got away with leisurely fractions of :25.42 (opening quarter of a mile), :50.57 (half-mile) and 1:15.14 (six furlongs).

The soft pace allowed Dixico to have plenty left for the stretch drive and the
4-year-old colt courageously fought off My Samurai Warrior through the lane and then just held off stretch-running Magic of the Moon to win by a head.  Magic of the Moon took second by a head over My Samurai Warrior.

Dixico, trained by Steve Specht, was timed in 1:39.40 and paid $7.40 as the 5-2 favorite in a field of eight.  Owned by Richard Dickson, Dixico earned $18,000 for the victory in the $33,300 allowance event.

Leading jockey Russell Baze had a riding hat trick.  Baze won the first race with Chukchi Sunrise ($2.20), the second with Cava Kavia ($14.80), and the sixth with Isadaisybelle ($7.00).  Baze tops the rider standings with 51 victories through 28 days of competition at the fall meeting.

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
