The race for leading trainer honors at the summer meeting is going down to the wire as Steve Sherman and William E. Morey are tied atop the standings with 20 wins apiece. Sherman, who is seeking his first Golden Gate Fields training title, is scheduled to start seven horses Sunday. Morey, who upset perennial champ Jerry Hollendorfer when he won the conditioning crown at the 2008 Golden Gate Fields spring meeting, is scheduled to run two horses. Hollendorfer, who has the won the training championship at every major meeting in Northern California from 1985 to the present with the exception of the 2008 spring session at Golden Gate Fields, is third in the standings at the summer meeting with 15 victories. Hollendorfer is scheduled to run seven horses, including a pair of runners in both the seventh and eighth races. Jockey Russell Baze, who has 44 victories, long ago clinched the riding title at the summer meeting.
