Dead-Heat In GGF Trainer's Race Heading Into Sunday's Finale

Golden Gate Fields wraps up its 27-day summer meeting Sunday with a 10-race card that begins at 12:45 p.m. Golden Gate Fields is offering $1 specials for the finale with parking, general admission, programs, beers, hot dogs, and sodas all costing just a buck apiece. The closing-day program will also feature a live concert by The Cheeseballs as well as the broadcast of all the NFL games and the very important baseball game between the San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres. The race for leading trainer honors at the summer meeting is going down to the wire as Steve Sherman and William E. Morey are tied atop the standings with 20 wins apiece. Sherman, who is seeking his first Golden Gate Fields training title, is scheduled to start seven horses Sunday. Morey, who upset perennial champ Jerry Hollendorfer when he won the conditioning crown at the 2008 Golden Gate Fields spring meeting, is scheduled to run two horses. Hollendorfer, who has the won the training championship at every major meeting in Northern California from 1985 to the present with the exception of the 2008 spring session at Golden Gate Fields, is third in the standings at the summer meeting with 15 victories. Hollendorfer is scheduled to run seven horses, including a pair of runners in both the seventh and eighth races. Jockey Russell Baze, who has 44 victories, long ago clinched the riding title at the summer meeting.
