Cover Story Just Gets Up In Feature Race At GGF

Cover Story, sporting the Hall of Fame connections of jockey Russell Baze and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, got up in the final yards to win the $33,480 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.

Receiving a fine ride from Baze, Cover Story rallied from seventh in a field of eight to capture the one-mile contest for fillies and mares by a head over 18-to-1 longshot Two Thirds Victory.  Demanding Diva finished third.

Cover Story was the third choice in the betting at 5-to-1 and paid $12.00 after collecting her third victory in 21 career starts.  Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and Barnett Stable LLC, Cover Story earned $17,400.

Baze and Hollendorfer won back-to-back races Thursday.  After taking the seventh race with Cover Story, the duo came right back to score with Count It All Joy ($5.60) in the eighth.

Count It All Joy’s victory completed a riding triple for Baze, who also won the first race with Atta Boy Pete ($3.40).

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Friday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and Baze is scheduled to ride six horses, five of which are favored on the morning line.
