Classy Halo Dolly Wins Turf Feature
The classy mare Halo Dolly, taking a break from stakes competition, charged from fourth in a field of five to post a 1 1/4-length victory in the $42,364 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.
Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and ridden by Russell Baze, Halo Dolly beat Luscious Lonna and Lady Aspen to the wire in the one-mile turf race for fillies and mares. Luscious Lonna took second by a neck over Lady Aspen, a stablemate of Halo Dolly in the Hollendorfer barn.
Halo Dolly, an owner of seven stakes wins, was the 7-5 favorite in the small but select field and paid $4.80. The victory was worth $26,520 and increased Halo Dolly’s career earnings to $910,256.
Halo Dolly, a 5-year-old daughter of Popular, was bred in California by Rod and Lorraine Rodriguez. Owned by a partnership headed by Hollendorfer, Halo Dolly has 17 wins, five seconds and four thirds in 35 career starts. Halo Dolly’s record includes a pair of graded stakes victories.
Baze rode four winners Sunday. In addition to taking the first race with Halo Dolly, Baze won the fourth race with Bobgeepers $7.40), the seventh with Playable Miss ($4.80), and the eighth with Brilliant Melody ($5.80).
The Gloria Buckridge stable recorded a natural hat trick when it won the fifth race with Charming Topper ($30.20), the sixth with Giannonatti ($13.20), and the seventh with Playable Miss ($4.80).
Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time for the eight-race card is 12:45 p.m.
