Cathy’s Crunches Supplemented To Camilla Urso

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has decided to start his multiple stakes-winning mare Cathy’s Crunches in the $50,000-added Camilla Urso Stakes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.
Cathy’s Crunches was not originally nominated to the Camilla Urso, however, Hollendorfer made her eligible for the six-furlong feature by paying $150 in fees – a $100 supplementary nomination fee and a $50 entry fee – at entry time Wednesday morning.

Eight fillies and mares were entered in the Camillo Urso and Cathy’s Crunches is the lone stakes winner in the field.  Cathy’s Crunches is also the leading money winner in the lineup with career earnings of $289,540.

Cathy’s Crunches is 2-for-3 racing six furlongs on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta surface.  As a 2-year-old in 2010, Cathy’s Crunches won the six-furlong Golden Gate Debutante and the six-furlong Golden Nugget Stakes back-to-back.  She then completed a stakes hat trick with a win in the one-mile Corte Madera Stakes

Cathy’s Crunches made her most recent try at six furlongs in her last start on Feb. 10 at Golden Gate Fields and finished fifth behind Distinctive Yolie and English Royal, a pair of runners she’ll meet again in the Camilla Urso.  The allowance sprint was Cathy’s Crunches’ first race in 2 1/2 months and she figures to benefit from the outing.

Owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and Mark DeDomenico, Cathy’s Crunches won the one-mile Adoration Stakes at Del Mar last summer and will be gunning for her fifth  career stakes victory Saturday when she breaks from post seven under jockey Julien Couton.

The Camilla Urso is the seventh race on a nine-race program and will be run at approximately 3:50 p.m.  In post position order, the field for the Camilla Urso is as follows: Hidinginplainsight, Aaron Gryder rides; Sweetly Peppered, Abel Cedillo; Madoffwiththemoney, Alejandro Gomez; Distinctive Yolie, Russell Baze; Rowdy Gal, Inoel Beato; I’m Tops, Frank Alvarado; Cathy’s Crunches, Couton; and English Royal, Dennis Carr.  Cathy’s Crunches will carry 119 pounds while her rivals tote 117.

The schedule at Golden Gate Fields this week features racing Thursday through Sunday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
