Cathy’s Crunches Seeks Third Straight Stakes Win at GGF

Cathy’s Crunches will gun for her third straight stakes victory Saturday at Golden Gate Fields when she heads a field of nine 2-year-old fillies in the $75,000 Corte Madera Stakes.

The Corte Madera is the featured seventh race on a nine-race card that begins at
12:45 p.m.  Fans attending the track with a paid admission will receive a free Golden Gate Fields fleece jacket.

Cathy’s Crunches, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, whipped fellow fillies in the Golden Gate Debutante on Nov. 6 and then defeated male rivals in the Golden Nugget Stakes on Nov. 20.  Both of those races were six-furlong sprints.

The Corte Madera will be run at one mile on the synthetic Tapeta racing surface and the race will mark Cathy’s Crunches first attempt at the distance.  Jockey Chad Schvaneveldt rode Cathy’s Crunches to her two stakes wins and he’s confident the daughter of West Acre will be able to ration her speed in the Corte Madera.

“I think she’ll run on and get two turns because she relaxes so well,” said Schvaneveldt following Cathy’s Crunches 2 1/4-length victory in the Golden Nugget.

Cathy’s Crunches, owned in partnership by Hollendorfer and Mark DeDomenico, has four wins in six career starts.  The Florida-bred filly is a 7-to-5 favorite on the morning to capture the Corte Madera.
The field for the Corte Madera, in post position order, is as follows: Cathy’s Crunches, Chad Schvaneveldt rides at 119 pounds, 7-to-5; Scarlet Starlet, Julien Couton , 119,
7-to-2; Seismic Speed, Leslie Mawing, 119, 8-to-1; Lilacs And Lace, Russell Baze, 119, 8-to-1; Noise of the Crowd, Juan Hernandez, 119, 15-to-1; Notorious Nikki, Catalino Martinez, 119, 20-to-1; Honey’s Prize, Inoel Beato, 116, 9-to-2; Entrustment, Kayla Stra, 119, 15-to-1; and Game To Run, Omar Figueroa, 119, 20-to-1.
