Carbonite Wins Sprint Feature
The 4-year-old gelding Carbonite, making only his second start of the year, came from just off the pace to win the $33,280 sprint feature at Golden Gate Fields Wednesday.
Trained by the shrewd veteran Dennis Patterson, Carbonite defeated 4-to-5 favorite Crazy Good by one length while completing six furlongs in 1:11.09. Devils Afleet finished third.
Jockey Chad Schvaneveldt rode Carbonite, who paid $4.20 after collecting his fourth victory in 10 career starts. Owned and bred by Mercedes Stables, Carbonite earned $19,200, a payday that boosted his bankroll to $130,360. Carbonite is a Kentucky-bred son of Aldebaran.
Jockey Leslie Mawing and trainer Frank Lucarelli teamed up to win two races Wednesday. The duo captured the fourth race with 6-to-5 favorite Voltar ($4.60) and the seventh with 9-to-1 longshot J. H. Commander ($21.00).
Racing resumes at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time is 12:45 p.m.
