California Oaks Runner-Up Sweet Nothings Favored In Mile Contest At Golden Gate Fields

Sweet Nothings has been the playing the bridesmaid role lately but she’s favored to get back into the winner’s circle Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.

Sweeting Nothings is the 8-to-5 morning line choice in the featured third race, a one-mile allowance contest for 3-year-old fillies.  Sweet Nothings will break from post position three in a field of five.

Sweet Nothings broke her maiden last November and has finished second in her three subsequent starts.  The streak of runner-up finishes includes place performances in the $75,000 Corte Madera Stakes and the $100,000 California Oaks.

Sweet Nothings will be out to make amends for her most recent outing on Feb. 11 when she finished second as a heavy 3-to-5 favorite in a one-mile allowance heat.  Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, Sweet Nothings was unable to hold off stablemate Via Villaggio through the stretch and was beaten 1 3/4 lengths.

A Kentucky-bred daughter of Street Cry, Sweet Nothings was purchased as a
2-year-old for $60,000.  The filly has made $67,610 in her nine career starts for owners Hollendorfer and Halo Farms.

Jockey Aaron Gryder was aboard Sweet Nothings in all three of her second-place finishes and he’ll be in the irons again Thursday.  Gryder ranks second in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings with 57 victories.

The field for Thursday’s main event, in post position order with riders and morning- line odds, is as follows: Ms Pianist, Kerwin John, 10-to-1; Habit Forming, Frank Alvarado, 2-to-1; Sweet Nothings, Gryder, 8-to-5; Distant Image, Alejandro Gomez,
10-to-1; and Light Up The Sky, Russell Baze, 5-to-2.

Post time Thursday through Sunday at Golden Gate Fields is 12:45 p.m.  The track will present eight-race cards on Thursday and Friday, and nine-race programs on Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday is Dollar Day at Golden Gate Fields with the track offering fans $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers and $1 sodas.
