Belmont Stakes Simulcast Saturday; Silky Sullivan Stakes Sunday

     The simulcast of the $1 million Belmont Stakes on Saturday and the running of the $100,000 Silky Sullivan Stakes on Sunday will highlight the action at Golden Gate Fields this week.

     Racing gets started Thursday with a seven-race program that begins at 12:45 p.m.

     All gates at Golden Gate Fields will open at 9 a.m. Saturday to accommodate fans wishing to play the undercard races on the Belmont Stakes Day program at Belmont Park in New York    

     The Belmont Stakes, the 1 1/2-mile middle leg of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown, will be run at approximately 3:36 p.m.   Kentucky Derby winner Orb and Preakness Stakes champion Oxbow head a field of 14 in the Belmont.
     Post time for the first Golden Gate Fields race is 11:45 a.m. and the track will host a Belmont Stakes Wine Festival from noon to 4 p.m.  Tickets to the festival cost $30 and include general admission to the track, 15 samples of wine, a sampling of domestic cheeses, fruits, and California brushetta, as well as a souvenir wine glass.  Tickets to the festival are available at:

     Orb posted a 2 1/2-length victory as the 5-1 favorite in the Kentucky Derby but disappointed in the Preakness, finishing fourth as a prohibitive 3-5 favorite.  Orb is the
3-1 morning-line favorite in the Belmont Stakes while Oxbow, who finished sixth in the Kentucky Derby before scoring a wire-to-wire upset in the Preakness at odds of 15-1, is the third choice at 5-1.  Revolutionary, who finished third in the Kentucky Derby and skipped the Preakness, is the 9-2 second choice.

     The field for the Belmont Stakes, in post position order, is as follows: Frac Daddy, Alan Garcia rides, 30-1 on the morning line; Freedom Child, Luis Saez, 8-1; Overanalyze, John Velazquez, 12-1; Giant Finish, Edgar Prado, 30-1; Orb, Joel Rosario, 3-1; Incognito, Irad Ortiz, Jr., 20-1; Oxbow, Gary Stevens, 5-1; Midnight Taboo, Garrett Gomez, 30-1; Revolutionary, Javier Castellano, 9-2; Will Take Charge, Jon Court, 20-1;
Vyjack, Julien Leparoux, 20-1; Palace Malice, Mike Smith, 15-1; Unlimited Budget, Rosie Napravnik, 8-1; and Golden Soul, Robby Albarado, 10-1.

     The Silky Sullivan Stakes is a one-mile turf race for 3-year-olds bred in California.  Entries for the race will be taken Friday morning and topping the list of expected starters is Surfcup, winner of the Snow Chief Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park. 

     Surfcup, a bay colt by Unusual Heat, is 2-for-2 on turf.  Surfcup hails from the powerful Bob Baffert stable and will be ridden by Hall of Famer Russell Baze.
