Baze Rides Three Winners Monday; Milestone Mount Coming Up Friday

Jockey Russell Baze didn’t get Monday off so he made the best of it by riding three winners on the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday program at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze won the fourth race with Habit Forming ($3.80), the sixth with Senjen ($7.00), and the seventh with Lilly’s Perfect ($9.60).

Baze, the winningest jockey in North American racing history with 11,836 career victories, is expected to have a milestone mount when racing resumes Friday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze will go into Friday’s card having ridden in 49,994 thoroughbred races – also a North American racing record – and he is scheduled to ride in six races.  Provided none of his mounts are scratched, Baze will have his 50,000th career mount when he climbs aboard Finish Rich in NYC in the sixth race.

Post time Friday is 12:45 p.m. and Baze’s mounts are Supercilious in the first race, Street Consensus in the second, Ma Mel in the third, Run The Blues Away in the fourth, Bi Tomorrow in the fifth, and Finish Rich In NYC in the sixth.  Post time for the sixth race is 3:15 p.m.

Jockey Frank Alvarado also had a riding triple Monday.  Alvarado won the first race with Stick Builder ($10.00), the third with Come Next Monday ($12.20), and the eighth with Lornefivehundred ($9.80).
