Baze Returns From Suspension To Go 5-for-6 At Golden Gate Fields

Jockey Russell Baze returned from a three-day riding suspension with a vengeance Friday when he won with five of his six mounts at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze, who received his penalty from the board of stewards for causing interference in the stretch with Stufdrmsrmadeof in the sixth race on May 21, took advantage of a bevy of live mounts in recording his big day.

Baze won the first race with Bondis Saviour ($5.40), sat out the second race, and then swept races three through sixth with Off Kilter ($4.40), Al Swearengen ($4.00), Skyribbon ($7.60) and Movie Star R. N. ($3.60).

Baze, who didn’t have a mount in the seventh race, suffered his lone loss of the day when he finished fourth aboard Royal Mango in the eighth race.

Baze was allowed to ride in one race during his suspension – the $100,000 Berkeley Stakes on Memorial Day – because the Grade 3 feature was a “designated race” (exempt from suspensions).  Baze finished second aboard Bold Chieftain in the Berkeley.

Racing resumes at Golden Gate Fields Saturday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
