Baze, Mawing Get The Treats At ‘Ghostly Gate Fields’

Golden Gate Fields hosted a “Ghostly Gate Fields” Halloween party for families Sunday but it’s doubtful that anyone bagged more treats than jockeys Russell Baze and Leslie Mawing.

Baze and Mawing both posted riding triples to account for six of the nine races on the Halloween card.

Baze won the second race with Fancy Summer ($5.00), the fourth with Live and Love ($2.80) and the sixth with Jerry’s Fever ($4.40).  Baze has 17 wins at the 10-day-old fall meeting and tops the jockey standings despite missing a day of racing.

Mawing, who rode three winners Saturday, repeated the trick Sunday by scoring with  River Ranch ($6.00) in the first race, Yodelady O ($13.00) in the eighth and Zehner’s Zenna ($4.60) in the ninth.  Mawing is second in the rider standings with 13 victories.

There is no racing at Golden Gate Fields Monday or Tuesday.  Racing resumes Wednesday at 12:45 p.m. and the highlight of the week will be the simulcast of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships from Churchill Downs on Friday and Saturday.
