Baze Increases Lead In Jockey Standings

Russell Baze increased his lead over Juan Hernandez in the jockey standings by winning three races Friday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze leads Hernandez, who rode one winner, 21-18 with two days remaining at the summer meeting.

Baze has an excellent opportunity to put the race for leading rider honors away Saturday since Hernandez will be at Fairplex Park in Pomona to ride City by the Bay in the $100,000 Barretts Debutante Stakes.

While Hernandez goes on his road trip Saturday, Baze will ride five horses, including morning-line favorites Rocabar (5-2 in the fifth race) and Tiz Point (5-2 in the sixth race).

Baze and Hernandez are both scheduled to ride seven horses on Sunday’s 10-race closing day program.

Baze recorded his Friday hat trick with victories aboard Three Cuties ($6.60) in the first race, King Budrick ($6.60) in the fourth, and Ruled by Kisses ($4.20) in the seventh.  Hernandez scored his victory with Zoe’s Baba ($6.20) in the third race.

Post time Saturday and Sunday is 1:15 p.m.
