Baze, Gryder Win Half The Races On Super Bowl Sunday Card
Russell Baze and Aaron Gryder, the two leading jockeys at Golden Gate Fields, combined to win half the races on the track’s Super Bowl Sunday racing program.
Due to the Super Bowl, Golden Gate Fields started its eight-race card at 11:15 a.m. and Gryder tallied in the early opener with Lady Hokulea ($4.80). The 7-to-5 favorite, Lady Hokulea held off 12-to-1 outsider Roll Your Eyes to win by a neck.
Baze swept the next two races, taking the second event with Jim’s Gold Pick ($7.40) and the third with Stormy Surge ($3.00). Baze tops the rider standings with 43 victories through 25 days of racing at the 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting.
Gryder, second in the standings with 41 wins, completed his riding double when he captured the seventh race with heavy favorite Hittheroadrunning ($3.80).
Racing resumes at Golden Gate Fields Thursday. Post time for the eight-race card is 12:45 p.m.
