Baze Follows Saturday Hat Trick With Sunday Four-Bagger

Jockey Russell Baze, North America’s all-time victory leader with 11,945 career wins, followed up his riding hat trick on Saturday with a four-bagger Sunday at Golden Gate Fields

Baze scored Sunday with Igotnosixes ($4.20) in the fourth race, Preacher’s Brat ($7.80) in the fifth, Humorous ($5.80) in the seventh and Tricky Shane ($6.00) in the eighth.  Igotnosixes and Tricky Shane are both trained by Armando Lage.

Baze tops the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings with 141 victories through 85 days of racing at the winter/spring meeting.

Jockey Juan Hernandez and trainer Steve Sherman teamed up to win a pair of races.  The duo took the third race with Classical Hy ($7.40) and the sixth with Our Heat ($4.20).

In the featured seventh race, a $35,364 allowance dash, Humorous improved his record at 5 1/2 furlongs to 3-for-4.  Humorous broke on top, battled on the lead with No Contingency down the backstretch and then turned back a challenge from Wildfire Kid in the stretch to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

Humorous, a 3-year-old gelding trained by Steve Miyadi, was timed in 1:04.28.  A California-bred son of Benchmark, Humorous races for his breeder, Nick Alexander.

Racing will resume Thursday at Golden Gate Fields when the track kicks off a five-day racing week that will culminate with a special Memorial Day racing program on Monday, May 27.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
