Baze Completes Title Campaign By Riding Four Winners at GGF
Jockey Russell Baze put the exclamation point on yet another title-winning campaign at Golden Gate Fields by riding four winners Sunday, closing day of the track’s 2010 fall meeting.
Baze visited the winner’s circle 79 times during the 42-day season and easily claimed his 39th career riding championship at Golden Gate Fields. Chad Schvaneveldt placed second in the jockey standings with 34 victories and Leslie Mawing finished third with 32 wins.
Baze scored with four of his first five mounts Sunday. He won the first race with Stefanelli ($3.80), the second with Old Ed ($4.20), the fifth with Sky Brite Miss ($4.00), and the sixth with One Perfect Karat ($8.00).
Sky Brite Miss is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who earned his 37th career training title at Golden Gate Fields by saddling 39 winners at the fall session. William E. Morey finished second in the trainer standings with 30 victories and Steve Sherman was third with 26.
Golden Gate Fields will take a six-day break for the holidays and then launch its 2010-2011 winter/spring meeting on Sunday, Dec. 26. There is a special 12:15 p.m. post time for the opener and fans attending the races will receive a free 2011 wall calendar that features outstanding racing photographs as well as vintage photos and historical notes about Golden Gate Fields, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
Santa Anita will also open its 2010-2011 meeting on Sunday, Dec. 26, and post time at the Arcadia track is noon.
