Baze Comes Off Bench To Win Five Races

Returning from a three-day riding suspension with a vengeance, Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze won five races Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze, who received his benching for causing interference in the stretch aboard Gold Tie Please in the first race on March 29, scored with his first mount back when he took the second race with Black Spirit ($7.00).

Baze went on to win the fifth race with All That Rocks ($4.00), the sixth with G. G. Ryder ($5.00), the featured eighth (a one-mile allowance race on the turf for fillies and mares) with Curvy Cat ($5.60), and the ninth with High Tide Line ($4.00).

Curvy Cat, a stakes-winning mare trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, surged to the lead at the top of the stretch and went on to win by three lengths over Sing and Tell.  Luscious Lonna finished third.

Curvy Cat, a 5-year-old daughter of Ministers Wild Cat, earned $27,300 for her 10th victory in 27 career starts.  Owned and bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, Curvy Cat has $386,055 in career earnings.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and the track is offering $1 general parking, $1 general admission, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1 beers, and $1 sodas.
