Baze Caps Memorable Weekend With Riding Triple

Jockey Russell Baze capped a memorable weekend by riding three winners Sunday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze made national headlines Friday when he became the first jockey in North American racing history to ride in 50,000 thoroughbred races.  Baze swept the first three races on Friday’s card and later had milestone mount No. 50,000, Finish Rich in Nyc, who finished third in the sixth race.

Saturday was memorable for Baze for the wrong reason as the Hall of Famer was shut out.  Baze went 0-for-6, finishing second three times and finishing third once.

Baze bounced back Sunday with another riding hat trick.  Baze won the second race with Legal Victory ($7.60), the third with Grape Juice ($3.60), and the sixth with Moonshine Bay ($3.00).  Grape Juice and Moonshine Bay are both trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.

Racing will resume at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.
