Baze Caps Big Week With Five-Win Sunday

Jockey Russell Baze capped a very successful week of riding at Golden Gate Fields by booting home five winners Sunday.

Baze had multiple-win afternoons throughout the four-day racing week as he rode two winners Thursday, four winners Friday, and three winners Saturday.

Baze scored Sunday with Kintla Journey ($4.00) in the fourth race, Make Mine Remy ($6.60) in the fifth, For Sure for Sure ($6.40) in the seventh, My Gal Candy ($5.80) in the eighth, and Piana Man ($5.00) in the ninth.  Make Mine Remy was the only Baze winner that wasn’t favored in the betting and she was the 2-to-1 second choice.

Baze has racked up 114 victories through 57 days of racing at the 2011-2012 winter/spring meeting.  Aaron Gryder, who is second to Baze in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings, has ridden 71 winners.

Racing will resume Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and Baze has mounts in seven of the eight races.
