Baze’s Winning Streak Ends At Six Races

Baze’s Winning Streak Ends At Six Races

Jockey Russell Baze, who went 5-for-5 Friday, extended his winning streak to six races when he scored with his first mount Saturday at Golden Gate Fields.

Baze captured the six-furlong second race with What’s for Dinner ($5.80), who prevailed by three-quarters of a length over Maidens Justice.  Baze’s winning streak came to an end in the third race when he finished third aboard Doc Can Dance.

The U.S. record for consecutive races won by a jockey is nine and Baze is one of a handful of riders to accomplish the feat.  In 2006, Baze won nine straight races over two days during the San Mateo County Fair meeting at Bay Meadows.  He won with his final two mounts on Aug. 17 and then went 7-for-7 on Aug. 18.

Jockeys Julien Couton and Pedro Terrero both had riding doubles Saturday.  Couton won the fourth race with Katy’s Star ($13.00) and the eighth with Beautranda ($16.80).   Terrero scored in back-to-back races, taking the fifth with Victoria’s On Fire ($14.00) and the sixth with Rathmoon ($30.40).
Trainer Lloyd Mason saddled a pair of winners.  Mason won the fourth race with Katy’s Star and the sixth with Rathmoon.

Racing continues at Golden Gate Fields Sunday with Dollar Day specials.  Post time is 12:45 p.m. and general parking, general admission, programs, hot dogs, beers, and sodas cost just $1 each.
