Apprentice Gonzalez Wins Three Races

Apprentice Gonzalez Wins Three Races

Apprentice Ricardo Gonzalez, who had a riding double last week, recorded his first riding hat trick Friday at Golden Gate Fields.

A promising 18-year-old graduate of the Frank Garza Jockey School, Gonzalez won with his first three mounts before losing his perfect game in the seventh and final race when he was unseated at the start by his stumbling mount Pelito.  Gonzalez was uninjured and quickly back on his feet while Pelito chased the field around the turf course.

Gonzalez won the second race with 6-5 favorite Rahy’s Reflection ($4.60), the third with 9-5 second choice Diamond Geezah ($5.60), and the fifth with 13-1 longshot Redvette ($28.00), who prevailed by the slimmest of noses.

Juan Hernandez took sole possession of first place in the jockey standings when he scored with a pair of 7-1 outsiders.  Hernandez won the first race with Nahem ($16.00) and the sixth with Not To Notty ($16.00).

Hernandez holds a 10-8 advantage over Russell Baze in the standings through nine days of racing at the summer meeting.

Golden Gate Fields will present racing throughout the holiday weekend as it has carded nine-race programs Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Labor Day.  Post time is
1:15 p.m. each day.
