Antares World 8-to-1 In $100,000 Stakes At Santa Anita Saturday
Golden Gate Fields-based Antares World will try to rebound from her first start of 2011 when she competes in the $100,000 Valentine Dancer Handicap at Santa Anita Saturday.
Antares World, trained by Steve Specht, is among the eight runners set to start in the Valentine Dancer, a one-mile turf race for California-bred fillies and mares. Antares World is 8-to-1 on the morning line and will be ridden by Martin Garcia.
Antares World won the California Oaks and Golden Poppy Stakes at Golden Gate Fields last year and ran second in the Grade 1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park. The
4-year-old filly opened 2011 with a tough assignment – the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff at Santa Anita – and finished eighth at odds of 31-to-1.
Owned and bred by Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams, Antares World is a dark bay daughter of Decarchy. Antares World has six wins, three seconds and two thirds in 16 career starts and $302,708 in earnings.
The 8-to-5 morning line favorite in the Valentine Dancer is the millionaire filly Evening Jewel, who won the Sunshine Millions Distaff by a half-length. Evening Jewel
is a multiple Grade 1 stakes-winner who has seven victories in 16 career starts and $1,182,943 in earnings.
The field for the Valentine Dancer Handicap also includes Camille C (15-to-1), Warren’s Got Game (15-to-1), Bran Jammas (8-to-1), Catsalot (15-to-1), La Nez (4-to-1) and Ultra Blend (5-to-2).
Golden Gate Fields will present a nine-race card Saturday and simulcast all the action from Santa Anita. Post time at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. and first post at Golden Gate Fields is 12:45 p.m.
The Valentine Dancer is the seventh race on the Santa Anita program and is scheduled to be run at 3:36 p.m.
