Ain’t No Other Is 5-2 Favorite In Oakland Stakes

Ain’t No Other, who finished second as the 5-2 favorite in the $101,250 California Flag Handicap at Santa Anita on Oct. 19, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in Saturday’s $50,000-added Oakland Stakes at Golden Gate Fields.

The Oakland, a six-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up, is the featured seventh race on a nine-race program.  First post is 12:45 p.m. and post time for the Oakland is 3:50 p.m.

The Oakland attracted a strong field of 10 and Ain’t No Other is a slight favorite over Gallant Son, who is 3-1.   Ain’t No Other and Gallant Son are both multiple stakes-winners with career earnings of $540,465 and $477,528, respectively.

Ain’t No Other is a 5-year-old gelding who takes his lessons from Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.  Owned and bred by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, Ain’t No Other is seeking his third stakes victory of the year as he captured the Sensational Star Stakes at Santa Anita in February and the Jess Jackson Owners’ Handicap at Santa Rosa in August.

Ain’t No Other enters the Oakland off a pair of runner-up finishes.  Prior to coming up a half-length short in the California Flag, Ain’t No Other missed by a neck in the Pirate’s Bounty Stakes at Del Mar.

Jockey Russell Baze, who was aboard when Ain’t No Other finished third as the 6-5 favorite in the 2012 Oakland, will be reunited with the California-bred son of Old Topper Saturday.

Gallant Son is a 7-year-old horse trained by Frank Lucarelli.  An owner of seven career stakes victories, Gallant Son recorded his most recent stakes tally in the Albany Stakes last February at Golden Gate Fields.

Gallant Son tuned up for the Oakland by rallying down the stretch to win a six-furlong allowance race at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 20.  Gallant Son scored by a neck in 1:09.15 while making his first start in nearly six months.  Jockey Isaias Enriquez guided Gallant Son to the victory and he’ll be back in the irons Saturday.

The field for the Oakland, in post position order with riders and morning-line odds, is as follows: Longview Drive, Frank Alvarado, 20-1; Scorpion Warrior, William Antongeorgi III, 15-1; Moonshine Bay, Dennis Carr, 9-2; Gallant Son, Isaias Enriquez,
