5-Year-Old Mare Seeks Sixth Straight Win Friday At Golden Gate Fields

Play Misty for Us will seek her sixth straight victory Friday at Golden Gate Fields when she faces seven rivals in a one-mile race for fillies and mares.

First post is 12:45 p.m. and Play Misty for Us will compete in the seventh and final race on the card, which will be run at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Play Misty for Us is a 5-year-old mare trained by Ed Moger, Jr., and owned in partnership by Bill and Sandy Dory and Gary and Janet Kropp.  Since joining the Moger stable last July, Play Misty for Us has six wins and a second in seven starts.

Play Misty for Us was 0-for-5 when she made her first start for Moger at the California State Fair in Sacramento last summer.  After breaking last in a field of seven, Play Misty for Us rallied to win the 1 1/16-mile race for $8,000 maiden-claimers by 1 3/4 lengths.

Thirty-five days later Play Misty for Us made her first start at Golden Gate Fields and finished second, beaten a half-length in a one-mile contest for $4,000 claimers.  She then kicked off her current winning streak with a 2 1/4-length victory in a similar race on
Sept. 8.

While continuing to run for a claiming tag of either $4,000 or $5,000, Play Misty for Us charged from off the pace to win by a neck on Nov. 7, by 1 1/2 lengths on Dec. 5, by a half-length on Jan. 1, and by 2 1/2 lengths on Jan. 16.  All of the wins were posted in one-mile races.

Jockey Alejandro Gomez has been aboard throughout the five-race winning streak and he’ll be in the irons again Friday when Play Misty for Us rises in class and starts for a claiming price of $6,250.

Play Misty for Us has been favored only twice during her run of victories, and based on the morning line, she is not expected to be favored Friday.  Play Misty for Us is the
7-2 second choice on the line behind 3-1 favorite Suances Flower, who missed by a neck in a $10,000 claiming race in her most recent outing on Jan. 26.
