17 Runners Nominated To Berkeley Handicap

Seventeen horses, including five multiple stakes-winners, have been nominated to the Grade 3 $100,000 Berkeley Handicap at Golden Gate Fields.

The main event of the fall meeting, the Berkeley will be run Friday, Nov. 29.  Fans attending the “Black Friday” card will have the chance to win a 42-inch high-definition television as track officials will raffle off one television after each of the nine races on the program.  Post time is 12:45 p.m.

The Berkeley is a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up that is contested on Golden Gate Fields’ synthetic Tapeta racing surface.  A victory in the Berkeley is worth $60,000.

The following horses are nominated to the Berkeley: Administer, El Commodore, Fast Track, Fire With Fire, Fury Kapcori, Majestic City, Mel’s Game, Outside Nashville, Pepnic, Say Ow, Schilling, Setsuko, Soe Phet, Stryker Phd, Summer Hit, Teaks North, and Willyconker.

Fire With Fire, Majestic City, Outside Nashville, Summer Hit and Teaks North are all multiple stakes-winners.  Teaks North, winner of the Grade 1 United Nations Handicap at Monmouth Park in New Jersey in 2011, tops all the nominees in earnings with a career bankroll of $1,288,364.

Summer Hit and Outside Nashville have both had stakes successes at Golden Gate Fields.  Summer Hit won the Silky Sullivan Stakes on the turf in 2012 and the Grade 3 All American Stakes on Tapeta in May.  Outside Nashville won the Golden Nugget Stakes on Tapeta in 2012.

Although not multiple stakes-winners, Fury Kapcori, Stryker Phd and Willyconker all own a stakes victory.  Irish-bred Willyconker recorded his stakes win in a Grade 1 event – the $300,000 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita in 2012.

Golden Gate Fields racing secretary David Jerkens will release the weight assignments for the Berkeley on Thursday.  Entries for the feature will be taken Saturday morning.
