10-Race Saturday Card At GGF Will Be Complemented By Great Simulcasts
Post time is 12:45 p.m. and fans attending Golden Gate Fields will receive a free Secretariat baseball cap. The terrific simulcast lineup is headed by the following stakes: the $250,000 Lady’s Secret, a 1 1/16-mile race at Hollywood Park that will feature the undefeated champion mare Zenyatta, who will be gunning for win No. 19; the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup, a 1 1/4-mile test at Belmont Park that will bring out Blame, a 4-year-old colt who has won five straight graded stakes; and the $750,000 Fitz Dixon Cotillion, a 1 1/16-mile race at Parx Racing (formerly known as Philadelphia Park) that will showcase the brilliant 3-year-old filly Blind Luck, who has already captured five graded stakes – including the Kentucky Oaks and the Alabama – this year for Northern California trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. The Hollendorfer barn will also be represented by Lilly Fa Pootz in the $250,000 Yellow Ribbon Stakes and Dakota Phone in the $250,000 Goodwood Stakes at Hollywood Park Saturday. Hollendorfer’s chief assistant in Southern California, Dan Ward, will handle the saddling duties. Russell Baze, the leading jockey at Golden Gate Fields, will be at Hollywood Saturday to ride Acaffella in the $250,000 Norfolk Stakes. Baze earned the mount in the Norfolk when he guided Acaffella to a big win in the Angel Island Stakes at Golden Gate Fields for trainer Richard Mandella. Belmont Park will present five Grade 1 stakes Saturday. In addition to the Jockey Club Gold Cup, the track will host the $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, the $500,000 Flower Bowl Invitational, the $350,000 Beldame, and the $350,000 Vosburgh. The Golden Gate Fields card may not have a stakes race, however, it does offer large fields, which translates to interesting betting opportunities. Seven of the 10 races have fields of eight or more, and four races have full fields of 12. This is the final weekend of racing at Golden Gate Fields’ summer meeting, which will conclude with a 10-race card Sunday.
