Didn’t begin his 2013 campaign until June 20 due to a shoulder injury and scored with his first mount back (Northern Smoke) at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton.
Finished fifth in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings at the 2013 summer meeting.
Won the riding championship at the 2011 Emerald Downs meeting with 129 victories and was the second-leading rider at Emerald in 2012 with 97 wins.
Scored back-to-back wins in the Gottstein Futurity at Emerald Downs, taking the 2011 running with Talk to My Lawyer and the 2012 renewal with Music of My Soul.  
Won five stakes at Emerald Downs in 2011 and four stakes at the Washington track in 2012.
Only six months after sustaining serious injuries to his left leg (compound fractures of both the tibia and fibula), he made a remarkable and triumphant return to competition by finishing third in the jockey standings at the 2009 fall/winter meeting at Golden Gate Fields.
Finished fourth in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings at both the 2009-2010 winter/spring meeting and the 2010 summer session.  
Finished second in the jockey standings at Emerald Downs in 2007 when he posted 86 victories.  
Guided top Washington 2-year-old Gallant Son to three stakes wins at Emerald Downs in 2008, a triple that was climaxed with a victory in the Gottstein Futurity. 
Rode in his first Breeders’ Cup race in 2008 and finished seventh aboard Gallant Son in the Juvenile.
Captured the 2010 Luther Burbank Handicap at Santa Rosa with Christmas Ship.
Has won stakes at the following tracks: Canterbury Park, Emerald Downs, Fresno, Les Bois Park, Mountaineer Park, Portland Meadows, Santa Rosa, and Turf Paradise.  
Has recorded 21 stakes wins at Emerald Downs, including a trio of triumphs in the Belle Roberts (Cielator in 2012, Hit a Star in 2007 and Halonator in 2005).
Racked up 16 stakes wins at Turf Paradise, including back-to-back scores in the Arizona Breeders’ Derby (with Sonnyhangover in 2000 and Resolve in 2001). 
Introduced to horse racing by his father, an avid fan of the sport as well as a horse owner.
First job on the racetrack was working for a trainer in South Africa.  Eventually began working horses. 
Traveled to Europe following the death of his father and eventually followed his older brother, Anthony, to the United States, where he met jockey agent Tony Matos in Southern California.  Following Matos’ advice, he began his riding career at Les Bois Park in Idaho and rode his first winner, Magic Spoon, on June 25, 1994. 
He and his wife, Catherine, have two sons, Aidan and Dominic, and a daughter, Jade.
