Finished second in the jockey standings at the 2013-2014 winter/spring meeting with 105 victories. 
In early summer of 2014 he captured stakes at three different tracks, taking the Golden Poppy at Golden Gate Fields with Luscious Lonna, the Seattle Handicap at Emerald Downs with City by the Bay, and the Oak Tree Sprint at Pleasanton with Streamside.
Has ranked among the leading riders in Northern California since his arrival in the Bay Area in 2010.
Edged Hall of Famer Russell Baze 17-16 in victories to claim the riding title at the 2013 Sonoma County Fair meeting in Santa Rosa.
Captured four of the six stakes races contested at the 2013 Sonoma County Fair session, winning the Wine Country Stakes with Catrageous, the Luther Burbank Handicap with Good Karma, the Joseph T. Grace Handicap with Fire With Fire, and the Jess Jackson Owners’ Handicap with Ain’t No Other.  
His 2013 stakes successes also included a triumph in the Barretts Debutante Stakes at Fairplex Park with City by the Bay and a score in the Bull Dog Stakes at The Big Fresno Fair with Fire With Fire. 
Placed second in the Golden Gate Fields jockey standings at the 2013 summer meeting by riding 22 winners during the brief 19-day session.
Finished third in the jockey standings at the 2012-2013 winter/spring meeting at Golden Gate Fields with 75 victories.
Has won a pair of Grade 3 stakes at Golden Gate Fields – the $100,900 All American with Cigar Man in 2010 and the $150,000 San Francisco Mile with Hudson Landing in 2012.
Captured the $150,000 I’m Smokin Stakes at Del Mar in 2012 with Native Treasure.
Has also won stakes with Candy and Thunder (Beverly Lewis Stakes at Fairplex Park in 2012), Gladding (Alamedan Handicap, Pleasanton, 2012), and Ain’t No Other (Livermore Valley Wine Stakes, Pleasanton, 2011).
Competed in Southern California from July 2012 to January 2013 and finished tied for 
10th in the rider standings at Del Mar, placed third at Fairplex Park, tied for ninth at the Santa Anita fall meet, and tied for eighth at the Hollywood Park winter meet.
Got off to a slow start at the 2012-2013 Santa Anita meeting and consequently moved his tack back to the Bay Area in February 2013. 
Began his riding career in Mexico City, following in the footsteps of his father, jockey Jose Hernandez.
