JOB TITLE: Director of Marketing

DEPARTMENT: Marketing

REPORTS TO: General Manager

FLSA: Salaried / Exempt

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Director of Marketing is responsible for planning, development and implementation of all of Golden Gate Fields’ marketing strategies, marketing communications, and public relations activities, both external and internal. This position will also create, coordinate and implement race-day promotions and events. 

The ideal candidate is passionate about sports and is familiar with developing a brand image and message.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

-       Assume overall responsibility for developing the seasonal marketing plans for Golden Gate Fields

-       Identify and execute promotions that are intended to increase race-day attendance at Golden Gate Fields

-       Develop and manage the annual marketing budget, assuring that all marketing operations adhere to budgetary constraints

-       Speak on behalf of the Golden Gate Fields marketing department during California Horse Racing Board meetings, explaining current marketing initiatives

-       Collaborate with the broadcast department to help promote important racing information

-       Develop a brand image for Golden Gate Fields

-       Assure that the Golden Gate Fields brand is consistent among all marketing communications

-       Develop promotions and/or events that will increase attendance on Golden Gate Fields’ race days

-       Organize and direct marketing and strategy meetings on a regular basis whereby the strategy and promotion programs are reviewed

-       Collect and analyze data about fans attending Golden Gate Fields

-       Assist with sponsorship relations and sponsorship activation

-       Oversee information in the Golden Gate Fields daily racing program and on the website to ensure accuracy

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-       Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications or business

-       3-5 years of experience as a Director of Marketing

-       Ability to work weekends and holidays

-       Ability to travel various times throughout the year

-       Detail oriented

-       Ability to create and manage a budget

-       Proficient in event coordination

-       Experience with purchasing media

-       Proficient with Social Media implementation

-       Thorough understanding of advertising and media buys

-       Good communication and interpersonal skills; excellent public speaking and presentation skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-       Experience working in the sports and entertainment industries 

-       Knowledge of horse racing and Golden Gate Fields’ history

-       Understanding of the San Francisco Bay Area sports and entertainment markets

-       Familiar with brand development and management
